Our Story

Elegant Elephant Fine Foods Inc. is the home of Elegant Elephant Baking Co., Belle (the elegant food truck), Vanilla Jill’s and Grown & Rooted Delivery. These companies work together to provide 100% gluten-free options while also accommodating nut, dairy, egg and soy allergies as well as vegan products. Elegant Elephant works hard to provide high quality ingredients in every product- utilizing organic ingredients as much as possible, and also supporting our local community by using many locally sourced ingredients.

Elegant Elephant Baking Co., (EEBC) was founded in 2012 by Jessie Scarola. It was inspired by Jessie’s passion for a healthy lifestyle, community, and baking when she moved into a gluten-free lifestyle in 2005. Her driving force to open a 100% Gluten-Free Bakery was her recognition of the dismal selection of celiac-friendly pastries and treats. Excited to provide options to the community, she took her highly-praised homemade recipes into the Incubator Kitchen at Hummingbird Wholesale and created a whole line of gluten-free desserts and pastries. Through a combination of servicing grocery stores, cafes and coffee shops as well as joining the Lane County Farmers Market Elegant Elephant hit the ground running. In 2015 EEBC bought an adorable 1953 food truck, and named it Belle. We parked it in the lot next to our incubator kitchen and tried our hand at a retail sales location- what a fun adventure!

Vanilla Jill’s was added to the Elegant Elephant Fine Foods Inc. umbrella in 2017 and offers ice cream, frozen yogurt, dairy-free ice cream, bone broth (in to-go quarts), and soups. We closed our storefront in the Whiteaker location in the fall of 2019. We continue to make fantastic products available at our storefront and food truck location. We are excited to be bringing a few of our favorite ice cream pints to grocery stores in the spring!

Grown & Rooted is our in-house local home delivery service under the Elegant Elephant Fine Foods Inc. umbrella which was started in 2020 when home delivery became a community need. Answering that need Grown & Rooted offered many of the Elegant Elephant Baking Co., and Vanilla Jill’s products as well as produce, dairy, meats, eggs, wine, specialty boxes, and other unique and fresh community offerings. Our goal is to work exclusively with the local small businesses to bring the bounty of the Willamette Valley to your doorstep. We have been planning some very fun options for this business as we move through COVID.

As a BRING Recycling certified “rethink” business, they are a zero-waste facility. We achieve this by composting then recycling, then trash. We also use reusable containers with our wholesale customers, working hard to keep the planet healthy for generations to come.
